A Little Less Lonely: Rise of Coworking Spaces


The freedom and flexibility of working as a freelancer or consultant has its perks. No dress code. No cubicles. Saying “no” to things you don’t want to do. You’re your own boss. However, it can get a tad lonely and some folks find coffee shops too distracting. Internationally, many solopreneurs and freelancers have found comfort and support with sharing office space or “coworking space” with strangers. There are more than 2,500 coworking spaces around the world and more popping up weekly.

According CNBC, this is a growing trend. With freelancers expecting to reach 65 million by 2020, coworking may be considered a growth industry. More than 100,000 coworking members are expected by 2018 (Emergent Research).

“Coworking is in its essence, a shared, collaborating workspace. We provide desk access and a community for entrepreneurs, small businesses, start-ups, mostly technology focused,” said Bret Morgan, co-founder of Cowerks, a shared office space in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in the CNBC article.

Even in cities like Mumbai, shared office spaces is growing, according to this article by hindustantimes.
